BCMA is Taking Climate Action with Ki Futures

In 2021, the British Columbia Museums Association (BCMA) launched the Climate Action & Leadership for Museums project to help museums better understand the challenges we are facing and to enable transformational climate solutions within our institution and beyond.

This new project has led us to reach out and join forces with the Coalition of Museums for Climate Justice, a dedicated peer network of museum and cultural heritage professionals who are firm believers in collective efficacy; the idea that we are stronger together.

We have also strengthened our collaboration with the BC Heritage Emergency Response Network (BC HERN) and will continue to work together to support institutions when disaster strikes.

Lastly, we have committed to taking action ourselves and are participating in the Ki Futures program throughout 2022. After joining the pilot phase of this new global program, we will continue to work, learn, and grow with our fellow Ki Champions to build a better future and to develop a sound sustainability approach for the cultural heritage sector. With a focus on collaboration, Ki Futures aims to connect institutions, cultural professionals, and sustainability specialists on a global level, while also engaging with other organizations to develop new tools and resources to spread sustainable practices in the cultural sector. We are beyond excited to play an active role in this!

Ki Futures Resources

As a benefit for BCMA members, we have been given permission to share select resources from the Ki Futures program with you. Follow the link below and log in with your member credentials to access them.

If you would like to join us and become a Ki Champion yourself, please reach out! We would love to chat about how the BCMA can support you and how you can access the BCMA member discount for the program.

One of the BCMA’s core values is our belief in the transformative power of museums. As museums, galleries and cultural heritage institutions in this province, we have a responsibility to help our communities understand the challenges we are facing and to take collective action in this climate crisis. We want to empower you and equip you with the tools, resources and support you need.
