BCMA Conference Travel Bursaries

The BCMA is pleased to provide a limited number of bursaries for BCMA annual conference delegates.

2024 Gathering Travel Bursaries

Intake for 2024 Gathering Travel Bursaries is currently closed. 

The first deadline to apply was July 31, 2024. Future intakes may occur if additional bursary funds become available for distribution. Sign up to be notified below.

The BCMA has a limited amount of funds available for annual bursary support. We encourage you to check out CMA’s bursary program. The deadline to apply is four weeks  prior to the commencement of the event. Learn more here: https://museums.ca/site/bursaries/conference.


Application Process

Please complete this form to sign up to be notified about additional financial support available to attend our 2024 Conference in Lheidli T’enneh territory, Prince George from September 24-27, 2024.

The bursaries follow a low-barrier application process. The application form will request information such as:

  • Contact information
  • City/Region
  • Optional self-identification as a priority recipient (i.e. under/unemployed, BIPOC, emerging professionals)
  • A brief explanation for how attending the gathering will support your studies or work.
  • Budget (requested amount and estimated expenses).

The first deadline to apply is July 31, 2024.  Bursaries will be adjudicated and funds will be distributed by August 16, 2024. Additional intakes may occur as more bursary supports become available. If you are unsuccessful during the first intake, you will not need to reapply to be considered for subsequent intakes.

 

Eligible expenses

Eligible expenses may include but are not limited to:

  • Air travel
  • Ferry travel
  • Accommodation
  • Local transportation

Awards typically range from $500 – $1,500.

 

Eligibility

The following individuals are encouraged to apply:

  • IBPOC culture and heritage professionals
  • Unemployed/underemployed culture and heritage professionals
  • Students interested in the museum sector
  • Emerging professionals who have worked in the museum sector for less than five (5) years

Membership Status

Applicant should be a BCMA member OR be employed by or volunteer for a BCMA member institution

Registration Status

Applicant should be registered for the 2024 Conference.

We encourage all travel bursary applicants to not delay in registering as a delegate for the 2024 Gathering. Registration will be fully refundable until August 31, 2024. Ensure your place at the gathering by registering as soon as possible.

Tip: You can select “pay with cheque” to register without processing any payment. You will still be able to pay via credit card at a later date.
