BCMA Workshop: Tools for Trying Times - Navigating Conflict Through Dialogue

Wednesday, May 27th, 2026 9:00 am – 4:00 pm PT Museum of Vancouver, 1100 Chestnut St, Vancouver, BC Psychological wellness in the workplace is often framed as individual resilience or the absence of problems, but it is deeply shaped by how organizations engage difference, conflict, and resistance. It is strengthened not only through policies and individual practices, but through dialogue, relationships, and the ability to work constructively with challenging situations. When people have meaningful opportunities to speak, listen, and engage across differences, conditions for belonging, plurality, and collective wellbeing are strengthened. This is especially important in museums, where complex pressures, emotional labour, and competing priorities are common, and where silencing or avoidance of conflict can contribute to burnout and disconnection. This full-day session invites participants to explore psychological wellness at both individual and collective levels. Drawing on deep democracy, trauma-informed practice, self-determination theory, somatics, restorative justice, and decolonial approaches to community care, participants will explore how relationships, power, and organizational structures shape wellbeing and belonging. Through a mix of frameworks, guided reflection, small-group dialogue, and experiential practice, participants will engage with peers navigating similar challenges. The session will create space for learning, connection, and shared reflection on sustaining ourselves and one another in this work. Participants will leave with practical tools, new perspectives, and relationships that encourage more resilient and collectively supportive environments. This workshop includes a catered lunch. Workshop fee: $25 for BCMA Members, $75 for non-members.
