How to: Queer Your Historic House - From Australia, to Scotland, to Canada

Tuesday, November 4 & 25, 2025 10:00 - 11:00 am PT What hidden queer stories might be hiding in your collection? Australian researcher and heritage professional Indigo Dunphy-Smith, now based in Scotland, invites you on a journey of curiosity and possibility with her toolkit How to: Queer Your Historic House. This playful, practical approach shows how queering history doesn’t require new acquisitions or big budgets, it works with what you already have. This two-part session begins with an introduction to the toolkit and a case study that shows how it can be put into practice, opening up fresh ways of seeing and interpreting history. The second session is hands-on: bring along an object or story from your own collection that might hold queer meaning, and together we’ll explore how to apply these methods across different contexts. Allies are welcome! From Australia, to Scotland, to Canada, this is an opportunity to experiment, reframe, and spark more inclusive conversations about the past.
