BC Museums Week: Building the Future of History Project and the Maritime Museum of BC
BC Museums Week is back! For 2025, our theme is “Building the Future.” Last year, we highlighted stories and conversations to "Imagine the Future," and in 2025, the BCMA is highlighting members who are actively building a new future within their community.
Thursday, May 15th, 12:00pm
After years of searching for a new home, the Maritime Museum of British Columbia (MMBC) is exploring an exciting new opportunity to return to Victoria’s iconic Inner Harbour. In collaboration with the Esquimalt and Songhees Nations, a proposal has been put forward to create a new, dual-purpose historical site that would reshape how coastal history is presented. Tentatively called “The Future of History," this project envisions a re-imagined Steamship Building and an adjoining floating structure that would be dedicated to the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations.
Join the BCMA and the Maritime Museum of BC to learn about the Future of History Project, how it came to be, the collaborative partnerships, and what happens next!
