Beyond the Margins: Networks Book & Media Club

Second Wednesday of the Month, 12:00 pm PT First session: December 11, 2024 The IBPOC Network and 2SLGBTQIA+ Network are excited to join together to offer a book & media club this winter season! Beyond the Margins seeks to create a supportive intersectional space focused on community building in the arts, culture, and heritage sector. This growth-oriented network provides a space to learn from one another and build solidarity amongst queer and IBPOC folks through the exploration of diverse media. For our first session, we are inviting attendees to bring your media recommendations around our first seasonal theme: “intersectional joy.” What would you like to explore with a diverse group of peers? The club is open to all forms of media, including but not limited to: excerpts from books, poems, podcasts, essays, music, videos, and more, we just ask that the media be free to access to ensure accessibility for all attendees. If you don’t have recommendations, don’t worry, we would still love for you to join us! We are continually exploring ways to make this club as accessible as possible, so you are interested in joining but concerned about accessibility, please get in touch with our coordinators at 250-356-5700, or bcma@museum.bc.ca. Our coordinators are open to recording voice notes of written text, visually describing video or images, and other ways to help everyone engage with the media. Hosting joint network events is intended as a way to celebrate and hold space for intersectionalities of identity and fill gaps in this type of programming – all who identify as IBPOC and/or 2SLGBTQIA+ are welcome!
