Now Hiring: Special Projects Coordinator
BCMA is searching for a driven and socially-conscious individual to join our team as the Special Projects Coordinator. Reporting to the Executive Director and collaborating closely with the IBPOC Network Coordinator, the Special Projects Coordinator will support key projects including the Indigenous, Black, and People of Colour (IBPOC) Cultural Professionals’ Network, research, and the coordination of a new microgrant program.
We are looking for a candidate that brings a passion for BC’s cultural sector, enjoys making new connections, and has an interest in innovative sectoral practice and systems change.

About the role
The candidate will work remotely as part of a small, passionate team and a large provincial network of members, partners, and volunteers. We offer a creative, inclusive, and flexible work environment and the chance to make a difference in a community dedicated to supporting BC’s museums, art galleries, Indigenous cultural centres, historic sites, and heritage institutions.
The Special Projects Coordinator’s primary responsibilities will include project management, supporting the delivery of the IBPOC Cultural Professionals Network, collaborating on outreach and engagement initiatives, research and administrative support, supporting the development of best practices, and promoting the organization’s mission and values to external partners.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to gain skills in project planning and budgeting as well as program development and delivery. The position will focus heavily on network building and relational practice which will provide the candidate with opportunities to grow their professional network on a provincial scale.
Relevant Skills, Experiences, and Interests
- Experience with relational practice, i.e. mentorships, peer affinity groups, support groups
- Willingness to use lived experience as a racialized person to address the challenges faced by IBPOC members and partners
- Willingness to engage with a variety of people and ideas
- Highly developed organizational, time management, and teamwork skills
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong digital literacy skills
- Software Skills: Microsoft Office, G-Suite, Zoom, Slack, Adobe Creative Cloud
- Passion for arts, culture, heritage, diversity, and community
- Experience working with Indigenous communities with first-hand knowledge of Indigenous cultures, practices, and issues is an asset.
Work environment and compensation
Work Week: Monday – Friday (35 hours per week).
$24-27 hr, plus statutory benefits (as a certified Living Wage Employer, exact compensation will be calculated to offer the successful candidate a living wage for their community)
This position begins on April 15, 2024 and continues until March 31, 2025.
The BCMA team is working remotely for the foreseeable future. We welcome applications from any location in British Columbia.
About the BCMA
Founded in 1957, the British Columbia Museums Association (BCMA) supports a thriving arts, culture, and heritage sector through collaboration, networking, advocacy, innovation, and professional development.
Since our founding, the BCMA has grown to include more than 450 members in every corner of British Columbia including museums, art galleries, science centres, Indigenous cultural organizations, First Nations, heritage sites, botanical and zoological gardens, cultural centres, conservation institutes, grassroots arts organizations, exhibition galleries permanently maintained by libraries and archives, and nature reserves.
The BCMA supports the professionals and volunteers who work in BC’s cultural sector and we aim to improve the cultural literacy of all British Columbians. The BCMA collaborates with arts, culture, and heritage partners to engage with all levels of government to share stories and make them aware of the true impact our sector has in communities large and small across the province.

Please note: This position may be partially funded by Young Canada works. In your application please indicate if you meet the following criteria:
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
- Self-identify as an IBPOC (Indigenous, Black, Person of Colour) graduate, professional or volunteer in a relevant field of practice or study
- Be between the age of 16 and 30 inclusive at the start of employment (ie have not turned 31 yet)
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Be a college or university graduate and
- Not receiving EI benefits while employed with this program
